Meet Your Inner Dolphin: Stig Severinsen Releases Breathwork Audiobook to Help The World Breathe Better, One Breath at a Time

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 17, 2025

Copenhagen, Denmark — With great pride, Stig Severinsen announces the release of his breathwork audiobook based on his bestselling breathwork book “Træk Vejret – Mere energi – mindre stress” (Breathe – More Energy – Less Stress).

This groundbreaking breathwork book, originally released in 2009, was one of the first mainstream publications to introduce breathing and breath holding to improve the health & happiness of everyday people in everyday life.

Stig Severinsen is a four times world champion freediver, PhD medicine and member of the Explorer’s Club. He has set multiple Guinness world records, including his most recent world record for underwater distance swimming from 2020, and was bestowed the title “The Ultimate Superhuman” in the Discovery show “Superhuman Showdown”.

After his retirement from competition freediving, Stig has made it his mission to make the world breathe better, one breath at a time and make people aware of the power of breath-holding.

“Oxygen is our life energy. It’s what gives us strength and vitality. You optimize the way your body’s cells work when you get more oxygen into your body, resulting in more energy and greater resilience,” says Severinsen. The breathwork audiobook offers listeners practical techniques to harness the power of breath for improved health and stress management.

Simple Daily Breathing Practices for a Healthier Life

Severinsen emphasizes that the first step towards better breathing is awareness. Many people unknowingly adopt the common habit of mouth breathing, which restricts oxygen flow to the lower lungs where it is most beneficial.

“Mouth breathing often leads to shallow breaths in the chest and throat. Breathing through the nose ensures oxygen reaches deep into the lungs, energizing the body more effectively,” explains Severinsen.

To help individuals integrate healthier breathing habits, Severinsen suggests setting daily reminders to practice deep, conscious breathing for just two minutes. Whether it’s through a gentle sound alarm on the phone or a calendar note, introducing these breaks on a consistent basis can significantly impact overall well-being.

The following simple exercise from the breathwork audiobook is the go-to for Stig Severinsen to “relax on demand” and can be done by any one, anywhere:

  1. Sit comfortably in a chair or on a mat on the floor
  2. Inhale deeply through the nose, as if you are smelling a flower
  3. Place a hand on the stomach to feel the belly expand
  4. Hold the breath briefly
  5. Exhale slowly (approximately twice the length of the inhale)

The short breath hold followed by the slow, controlled exhale activates the vagus nerve and promotes relaxation through the parasympathetic nervous system.

“Exhaling slowly is the key to calming the body. This practice not only enhances sleep quality but also boosts daily energy levels. People invest in diets and supplements, but proper breathing is the true foundation of health,” Severinsen asserts.

Observe the Pause: The Power of Breath-Holding

Breath Hold Meditation under Water (Note: Never hold your breath under water without supervision!)

Rooted in yoga philosophy, Severinsen highlights the calming effect of controlled breath-holding. By holding the breath for ten seconds, individuals can momentarily still their mind and body, offering a powerful tool for mental and physical relaxation.

  • Breath-holding exercises reduce stress and lowers your heart rate, like yoga & mindfulness
  • Breath-hold training on a regular basis increases your mental toughness
  • Starting your day with a breath-hold session gives you a boost in energy
